«The US Congress approved military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $ 250 million. In the UK, we signed a £ 1 billion 250 million agreement to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy. We have received and expect additional speed boats of the class «Island». Alexey Danilov said, according to the press service of the National Security and Defense Council, that the reform of the country’s military-industrial complex is underway. «with maximum corporatization and the involvement of NATO countries in the joint production of weapons on the territory of Ukraine». The priority of the defense industry is «production of high-precision weapons in the fight against the occupier», noted Danilov.
Concept «mosquito fleet»
Chairman of the Public League Ukraine – NATO Sergey Dzherdzh believes that the development strategy «mosquito fleet» right for Ukraine.
«If we talk about the naval component of the line defense, then it is definitely weakened after the capture of Crimea. Ukraine got few warships and an orientation towards “mosquito fleet” in modern warfare – it is correct. Small ships are more difficult to identify and destroy. They are maneuverable and fast, and if there is such a concept, then efforts are needed to have more such small-tonnage ships.», – says Sergei Dzherdzh to the correspondent of the Russian Service «Voices of America».
He calls the memorandum with Great Britain, signed during the visit of the President of Ukraine to London, an important component of strengthening the defense. This document, according to Serhiy Dzherdzha, will allow, with the participation of Ukrainian military engineers, to build up to eight ships for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
About multifunctional fleet
Association leader «Union of participants in peacekeeping operations» Sergey Grabsky notes that international challenges and threats oblige Ukraine to consider alternative and less costly options that will ensure an adequate level of defense.
«Yes, of course, we would like to have a strong fleet, which could compete on equal terms with the Russian fleet, but we understand that in the future for ten years – it’s just physically impossible», – says Sergey Grabsky to the correspondent of the Russian Service «Voices of America».
He believes that Ukraine, with the support of the United States, is quite successful in creating conditions for the functioning «mosquito fleet».
«This fleet can be multifunctional. We are talking about missile boats that can be equipped with Ukrainian-made missile weapons, artillery, mine action boats and escort boats.», – notes Sergey Grabsky.
Serhiy Grabskiy notes that the transferred American boats increase the power of the Ukrainian fleet and make it possible to master existing NATO models of naval equipment with less time..
At the same time, he believes that Ukraine could become one of the important aspects of NATO’s activities. – provide air military transport.
«We know how to create transport aircraft from scratch, we can act in the niche for the production and maintenance of NATO’s military air needs», – emphasizes Sergey Grabsky.
